Prices at Exceptional Editorial

One of the most frequently asked questions is our pricing. While we'd love to be able to provide a list of exact prices, the reality is that each project is different. What a client feels is merely proofreading may in fact be a time-consuming developmental editing job. The easiest way to prevent misunderstanding and frustration is to get on the same page from the start.

That being said, we can provide a general range of pricing for our services, based on past projects. These prices are based on a six- to eight-week turnaround time. More than one revision will increase the cost of the project. Retainer or standby requests incur separate holding fees. Rush orders are done on a case-by-case basis and they are only available for existing clients in good standing. Expedited orders will incur additional fees that are nonrefundable and must be paid in full before work begins.

These prices are a guideline and do not guarantee project cost. Please contact us for a quote. If we agree on the scope of work, then you will be sent a statement of work. Once the statement of work is finalized, you will receive a contract. Work begins when the contract is signed and 50 percent of the project cost is paid to Exceptional Editorial.

Overall, we prefer to work with academic presses and small businesses. Our rates are generally $250 an hour with a three-hour minimum.

Academic coaching/Dissertation or thesis mentoring: $80 - $100 per hour
Academic indexes fewer than 300 indexable pages: $600 - $1,200
Blog post (ghost written): $360 - $500
CV to resume: $80 - $100 per hour
Digital Strategy: $250 per hour (minimum three hours)
Editing fewer than 1,500 words (e.g., blog posts, newsletter stories, press releases): $75 - $150
Editing 10,000 words: $800 - $1,000
Editing 50,000 words: $4,000 - $6,000
Translations: $0.25 - $0.50 per word
Media and press strategy planning: $40 - $80 per hour (minimum three hours)
Syllabus creation/Course design for traditional or online classes: $1,500 - $3,000
Word document optimization/Template creation: $100 - $500
Rush Fees: $500 - $1,000 per expedited week
Same-Day Service: Depends on workload and size of project. Not cheap and not usually available until the weekend.
